A five year transformation programme of adult social care services has recently won Croydon council a prestigious Municipal Journal award for innovation.
In common with other local authorities, demand for adult social care in Croydon is increasing, both in numbers and complexity. Between 2006 and 2012, assessments of adults leading to provision of a service increased by 38%.
Another challenge is an increasing population, which in Croydon grew by 10% between 2001 and 2011. This is 2.9% higher than the national average, with the greatest proportional increases in older age bands. There are also health inequalities by location, gender and ethnicity.
