A murder investigation has been launched after a teenager was stabbed to death on a bus in south London.

The 17-year-old boy was found with multiple injuries on a bus in Whitehorse Lane, Croydon, on Sunday evening after police were called.

Paramedics also attended the scene but the youth was pronounced dead about half an hour later.

The police have not named the victim, but said he had been identified and his family informed by specialist officers.

Detectives investigating the murder believe the boy had been involved in an “altercation” prior to the attack which ended his life.

The Metropolitan Police issued a Section 60 order, which gave officers greater stop and search powers, across several parts of Croydon, but no arrests have yet been made and their investigation continues.

Anyone with information about the murder is asked to contact the police or anonymously contact the Crimestoppers charity.

The killing on Sunday evening is believed to be the 20th murder on the streets of London since the start of the year.
