Croydon fire: Around 120 firefighters tackling blaze at storage warehouse in London

Up to 120 firefighters are tackling a blaze at a self-storage warehouse in London.

Around 20 fire engines are at the scene, in Purley Way, Croydon, after London Fire Brigade (LFB) were called shortly before 8pm on New Year's Eve.

The cause of the blaze remains unknown and Transport for London (TfL) has urged drivers to find alternative routes.

Croydon station manager Jason Jones said: "This is a significant fire in a large self-storage warehouse. There is a lot of smoke in the local area and we'd ask residents to keep their doors and windows closed.

"Thankfully no one was inside the property at the time of the fire and there are no reports of any injuries.

"Firefighters will be at the scene throughout the night."

The fire is believed to be at a Shurgard facility, which contains more than 1,300 self-storage units.
