Croydon crash: Two people rushed to hospital after car ploughs into shop front

Two people have been rushed to hospital after a car crashed into a shop front in south London.

Pictures showed police, ambulance crews and fire engines at the scene in West Croydon, MyLondon reports.

A witness said the vehicle smashed into a kitchenware store causing London's Air Ambulance to dispatch and traffic to come to a stop.

The accident was initially "massively affecting buses" but normal service has now resumed.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 1.11pm today to London Road, Croydon to reports of a road traffic collision.

"We sent two ambulance crews, two medics in response cars and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

"We treated two people at the scene and took them both to hospital."

A witness said: "I just heard a loud screech and then a crash and that white car was sticking out of the shop.

"It was so fast I didn’t actually see it.

"Then almost straight away the whole road was closed off by the police and fire crews. I hope they’re OK."

Buses running through Croydon town centre had to be diverted due to how close the crash happened to West Croydon bus station.
