Crows veteran Mackay retires from AFL

David Mackay will wrap up his AFL career in Adelaide's final game this season. (AAP)

Adelaide stalwart David Mackay is retiring from the AFL, joining veterans Danieal Talia and Tom Lynch in departing the Crows.

Mackay will play his 248th and final AFL match on Sunday against North Melbourne - he's ninth on Adelaide's list of games played.

The 33-year-old utility's successful career is described by coach Matthew Nicks as a template for an AFL footballer.

"D-Mac's playing career speaks for itself, 248 games in 15 seasons," Nicks said in a statement on Thursday,

"He has been durable and super-reliable for this club for a long time.

"It is a credit to him the way he has continually reinvented himself and improved his game, and this season he has played some of the best football of his career.

"He is the ultimate professional when it comes to his training and preparation, he is a selfless teammate ... an outstanding role model for young players."

Lynch, who turns 31 in September, will also play his final game for the Crows against the Kangaroos.

The 163-gamer appears likely to attract interest from rival clubs while the 29-year-old Talia could play on elsewhere after both weren't offered fresh contracts by Adelaide.
