
Trains on the JR Yamanote line were crowded with masked commuters on Monday, two weeks after the full lifting of the state of emergency imposed due to the coronavirus epidemic
According to East Japan Railway Co., the number of passengers using the Yamanote Line during weekday rush-hour periods from May 25 to 29 increased 16% from the previous week from May 18 to 22, when Tokyo was under a state of emergency. Passenger numbers have continued to rise in June.
Lines formed on the platforms at Tamachi Station on the JR Yamanote Line in Minato Ward, Tokyo, at about 8 a.m. on Monday, as commuters boarded and alighted from rush-hour trains.
