Crowds have been gathering at Llanelli beauty spots and Dyfed-Powys Police is pleading for people to stop

Police are urging crowds to stop gathering at beauty spots across Llanelli.

Dyfed-Powys Police has warned people to only travel for essential reasons following an increase of crowds gathering at Llanelli beach, as well as other popular locations.

Wales has been under alert level four restrictions since December 20 - which permits only essential travel. This would include travelling to buy food, to go to work or education, if you can't work from home, or to provide care for a vulnerable person.

The force has reminded members of the public that exercise should be starting and finishing at their home.

A statement shared on Twitter read: "We are seeing an increase of crowds gathering at the beach and other beauty spots in Llanelli.

"Please remember that Welsh Government restrictions state that exercise should start and finish at your home - you should not travel to exercise."

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police explained that while no fines were issued, "people were encouraged to exercise closer to home and not to travel except for essential reasons".

This comes after 14 fines were issued to people "travelling without necessity" in the Mumbles area of Swansea at the weekend.

South Wales Police handed out the fixed penalty notices and warnings in both Mumbles and Bracelet Bay.

The force also fined two people from Bristol who had travelled to Three Cliffs Bay, in Gower, "for a holiday".

In recent weeks, officers have been seen carrying out vehicle stop-checks across the city with motorists being stopped on Fabian Way, as well as on Mumbles Road near Blackpill.

The current alert level four restrictions are due to be reviewed on Thursday.

However, First Minister Mark Drakeford has warned that there is  very little room for changes, meaning lockdown could be extended until the end of January.
