Crowds gather at Edinburgh Five Guys as burger chain reopens for takeaway amid lockdown

Alarming pictures show crowds gathered outside an Edinburgh Five Guys restaurant during Covid-19 lockdown.

Photos taken outside the burger chain's Fountain Park restaurant reveal dozens of people waiting in line for takeaway orders on Wednesday evening.

One member of the public, who passed the eatery at around 7pm, contacted Edinburgh Live to say: "Five Guys at Fountain Park has re-opened and on my evening walk tonight there is a vast amount of people waiting outside, not only Deliveroo riders but members of the public who are CLEARLY not practising safe social distancing whilst waiting for the food and who are clearly disregarding any and all government guidelines.

"Surely something should be done about this?"

It emerged yesterday that two Five Guys restaurants in the city had reopened for takeaway, with the Fort Kinnaird branch also opening up.

A number of social distancing measures were said to be in place.

For instance, anyone ordering by click and collect is asked to  pay  before arriving to help enforce social distancing rules and protect the restaurants crew.

Five Guys  UK CEO John Eckbert said: "We have adopted a phased approach to reopening Five Guys stores, adhering to government advice and ensuring the safety of our customers and crew is paramount.

"To date a small number of stores have remained open for Click and Collect and Deliveroo orders only and while this has been in operation, we've been proud of how our crew members have supported local  hospital  workers and key frontline workers across the UK."

Edinburgh Live has been in touch with Five Guys to find out more about the measures in place at their reopened stores.
