Crowds of people, some with their families, enjoyed gathering clamshells on Sunday along the beaches of Takeshima in Gamagori, Aichi Prefecture. People were unable to gather clamshells last year due to the coronavirus crisis.
Despite the uncooperative weather, people descended on the area all wearing masks and social distancing as they dug up the clamshells and put them into buckets.
"It was a little cold, but I was happy we could get so many clams," said a girl, 15, who came with her family of five from Nakamura Ward, Nagoya.
"I'm so happy so many came out," said Shoichi Sakai, 66, director of Gamagori's fisheries cooperative. "I hope they can take the clams home and make a great meal out of them."
