Crowds filmed at Lace Market tram stop after 10pm pub curfew

This video captures a long line of people waiting at a tram stop in the Lace Market - at time when talks progress over parts of Nottinghamshire being placed under Tier 3 lockdown restrictions.

The footage was taken at around 10pm on Friday, October 23, and shows people waiting in Fletcher Gate, opposite Tesco Express, at around the time when pubs and bars must close.

Scores of people can be seen in Fletcher Gate from its junction with Warser Gate.

It comes after community protection officers started patrols in the city to limit the number of passengers on trams following concerns trams were becoming extremely overcrowded.

After talks between council leaders and Government ministers took place on Thursday and Friday, discussions are expected to continue this week, with parts of the county expected to enter the tightest Tier 3 restrictions as early as Wednesday (October 28).

The discussions have involved the leaders of Nottingham City Council, Broxtowe Borough Council, Gedling Borough Council, Rushcliffe Borough Council and Nottinghamshire County Council.

At this stage, it is believed the districts of Ashfield, Mansfield, Newark and Sherwood and Bassetlaw will remain in Tier 2, meaning pubs remain open and households can meet in any outdoor setting in groups of six.

Under the tougher Tier 3 restrictions, pubs must close unless they serve meals and social mixing with other households or bubbles is banned both indoors and in private gardens or beer gardens.

MPs were also summoned to talks with Government ministers on Friday.

It is not clear how close they are to an agreement but on Friday evening a joint statement was issued by all council leaders which said the talks were continuing, and they had been "constructive".
