There will be more than 1,200 people carrying the torch through our region over the next couple of weeks with countless more lining the streets to cheer it onwards towards the start of the Olympic spectacle.

So far the torch has travelled up from its British starting point in Cornwall, into Lancashire, over to Ireland and around the Highlands and Islands.

It will cross the Scottish border and arrive in northern England once more ready for the relay to pick it up in Alnwick on Thursday as part of its 8,000 mile journey over 70 days - and we'll be tracking it's every move.

See where it's got to on this interactive map.

As we get ready for its arrival, here's some of the important facts, figures and milestones for the northern leg.

Who is carrying the torch?

Among the 1,215 people in the north carrying it will be 36 of the youngest torchbearers on our part of the route, the 12-year-olds who are due to take their place in the history books.
The northern region's oldest torch bearer is 92-year-old Jack Andrew who will be doing his bit in Cleethorpes on June 26th.
The website Help Me Investigate also recently revealed that 12 employees from sports company Adidas will be carrying the torch in locations including Huddersfield, Bradford and Stockport.
The full list of torchbearers from Alnwick to Lincoln can be found here.
