Crowd manages to catch dog as it falls from balcony after struggling to hold on

Kind-hearted locals gathered to catch a dog as it fell from a balcony after becoming entangled in a plant.

The good-natured residents waited to catch the fluffy falling animal called Pipo, using a blanket.

He was terrified and confused a after it became trapped in an overhanging plant.

The incident was filmed in the town of Novelda in the Spanish province of Alicante and the footage has been widely shared on social media and Pipo has become a huge hit.

According to news site Telecinco, the dog was alone on the second-floor balcony when it got trapped on the overhanging plant.

It was about to fall at any moment, but local residents were alerted by the dog's barks and rushed to gather some blankets before gathering under the balcony while the terrified pooch clung on.

The dog eventually plummeted to the ground and a group of neighbours were at hand to catch it in the blanket which was held taut by the good samaritans.

The animal's owners were away at the time dealing with a family issue and did not know the drama which had ensued.

Pipo was seen teetering on the balcony and holding on as it got caught up in the plant.

He looked scared and was grateful to the neighbours for catching him and grateful they had come to his rescue.

Manuel Martinez, who filmed the footage said: "I live in Novelda and I was there at the time with some friends who did not hesitate to get some blankets to help the dog.

"The dog's owners were away due to a family issue and no one was home at the time.

"We were notified by some neighbours and we went over right away."

The dog was tangled in the plant for some time before it plummeted to the blanket below.

Martinez added: "About 20 minutes passed from the moment we realised it was leaning over the balcony until the moment it fell.

"The dog was scared, but very grateful afterwards. It was returned to its owners later. The dog's name is Pipo."
