Crossmichael's William Ross lands gold medal in SASA Levels Diving Competition

A Crossmichael schoolboy has struck gold in a national diving competition.

William Ross topped the podium at the SASA Levels Competition at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh on Friday.

The event was the first competition of 2020 and the first time for William competing at Level 2 in the category boys 14yrs+.

Mum Silvana said: “William did extremely well winning the gold medal as this was his first competition since May 2019.

“He missed a competition due to injury and after that The Citadel in Ayr was shut for almost two months due to repair to the flexi pool.

“Training hasn’t been easy in the last six months with various trips to Edinburgh just to keep up his training and fitness.”

Silvana added: “We are now back to twice-a-week training in Ayr plus gymnastics and dry land classes.

“It was a good start to the diving season.”

William, 13, is a S2 pupil at Castle Douglas High School and a member of Ayr Diving Club.

His next competition will be in March in Ayr.
