Crossmichael Primary pupils given the chance to rub shoulders with the Vikings

Kids from Crossmichael Primary got to rub shoulders with some Vikings on Thursday.

The youngsters were invited along to visit a special encampment that had been created at the village marina.

Members of Cluaran Historical Interpretation project and the Galloway Longfhada Vikings were able to provide an insight into Viking culture with crafts, cooking demonstrations, weapons maintenance and a battle.

The encampment was commissioned by the Galloway Glens scheme and Glenkens Community and Arts Trust ahead of the Galloway Viking Hoard going on display in Kirkcudbright in October.

Schoolkids were invited along to the encampment on Thursday and Friday before the camp opened to the public at the weekend.
