It’s now less than a month until revellers brave the icy depths of Loch Ken for the New Year’s Day Dee Dip.
But for one mum, January 1 will mark the end, not the start.
Crossmichael’s Suzy Rook is taking part in Cancer Research UK’s Cold Water Challenge which will see her take to the cold water every day until New Year – a total of 38 days in a row.

And in the process she is aiming to raise hundreds of pounds for the charity.
She said: “I’m a little late starting my challenge. I decided to wait until the colder weather, making it extra fun - not. This has great health benefits, well I’m told this!
“I’m doing the cold water challenge to aid my mental health wellness. During the winter my mental health takes a real dip so I decided to do something about it this year, as well as fundraise.
“This charity really helps and I know a couple of precious people at the moment are going through a brave and courageous battle.
“I do the Dee Dip regularly. However, in this challenge I’m doing cold water dips each day until New Year’s Day and hope to raise funds and awareness for Cancer Research UK. We all know someone affected by cancer.”
