CrossFit QUITS Facebook and claims tech giant censors fitness and health content

It’s one of the biggest fitness franchises in the world, but CrossFit has dramatically deleted both its Facebook and Instagram accounts this week.

CrossFit’s decision to delete its pages comes shortly after Facebook deleted the Banting7DayMealPlan group - a group focused on ‘food that is as close to its natural state as possible - free from processing, additives, preservatives and sugar.’

While Facebook has subsequently reinstated Banting7DayMealPlan’s group, CrossFit clearly isn’t happy.

In a statement about the decision, CrossFit wrote: “All activity on CrossFit, Inc.’s Facebook and Instagram accounts was suspended as of May 22, 2019, as CrossFit investigates the circumstances pertaining to Facebook’s deletion of the Banting7DayMealPlan and other well-known public complaints about the social-media company that may adversely impact the security and privacy of our global CrossFit community.”

CrossFit has even gone so far as to claim that Facebook’s decision to delete nutrition pages means that the platform is ‘complicit in the global chronic disease crisis.’

The response to CrossFit’s decision has been very mixed, with many users applauding the group, and others deeming it a ‘total PR move.’

On Twitter , one user wrote: “This is outstanding. I hope to see other large organisations follow your lead,” while another called the decision ‘the start of something bigger.’

However one user called the decision a ‘total PR move,’ while another suggested that Facebook is unlikely to even notice.
