Crossbow sales to be banned in wake of horrific triple murder

  • The UK Government plans to ban the sale of crossbows and introduce a licensing scheme for existing owners following a series of violent attacks.
  • This decision comes after the murder of John Hunt's wife and two daughters in Bushey in July 2024, and other incidents involving crossbows.
  • Currently, there is no registration or licensing requirement for crossbows, which are readily available for purchase.
  • The new measures will also prohibit broadhead arrows and aim to prevent serious harm, though the implementation timeline is unclear.
  • Laura Sugden, whose partner was killed in a crossbow attack in 2018, welcomed the announcement, hoping the new legislation will be known as 'Shane's Law'.
