Now that the schools are back and the summer hordes have gone, the picturesque Cornish town of Padstow and the white sand beaches of Rock, on the opposite side of the Camel estuary, are more idyllic than at any other time of the year. Hop on board the Black Tor passenger ferry from Padstow for the brief crossing to Rock – a quick blast of sea air and the chance to see seals, dolphins and sun fish on the way. The fare costs £3 return.
