'Cross our fingers' - Middlesbrough wait on precautionary test result ahead of Nottingham Forest

Middlesbrough could be missing striker Chuba Akpom against Nottingham Forest.

The Reds travel to the Riverside Stadium in the Championship on Saturday - and Boro boss Neil Warnock has revealed Akpom, who had a loan spell at the City Ground from Arsenal earlier in his career, will undergo a precautionary test for coronavirus after withdrawing from their squad to face Coventry City on Tuesday night through illness.

“We don’t know about Akpom. He just didn’t feel very well. With this virus around, we couldn’t take a risk," said Warnock.

“We will do a test for him and make sure it’s not the virus. Cross our fingers. That’s all we can do."

Former Forest striker Britt Assombalonga scored his first goal of the season in a 2-0 win over Coventry.

“That’s Britt when he is confident and the earlier (missed) header is Britt when he’s not confident," added Warnock.

"I am looking away thinking ‘oh my goodness’. Strikers thrive on goals and I am pleased with that.”
