Crooks steal 'Bengal tigers' from restaurant after smashing window

An Indian restaurant has released CCTV footage after two men broke in and stole two ornamental tigers.

The break-in happened at the Chennai restaurant on Warrington Road on the outskirts of Warrington during the early hours of August 20.

The restaurant posted CCTV stills online which appeared to show a man reaching in through a window and taking an ornament. The owners said that two ornamental tigers were stolen but the suspects are not thought to have actually entered the restaurant.

Two of the restaurant's bay windows were smashed with concrete blocks.

Chennai posted a statement online which read: "A quick announcement for all our lovely customers, family and friends.

"Unfortunately, we suffered with a break in at our restaurant last night around 2am.

"Our two front bay windows were smashed through with concrete blocks and a couple of ornaments were taken from the window sills. (silver Bengal tigers)

"Luckily, the thieves didn't enter the restaurant directly however there was a lot of damage caused and windows were replaced in the morning.

"We would really appreciate it if you could share this and are asking all our lovely customers and surrounding neighbours to contact us if you have any information which could help in finding these scumbags.

"There was two of them involved in total and they may try and sell these silver ornaments locally."

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "At 8.15am on Friday 20 August police were called to reports of a burglary at an Indian Restaurant on Warrington Road, Warrington. Two unknown males are believed to have forced entry into the building by smashing a number of windows with concrete blocks and stole a number of ornaments.

"The incident occurred at around 2am on Friday 20 August.

"Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 1065242. Information can also be reported online at www.cheshire.police.uk/tua or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
