Croke Park to welcome 8,000 fans for Leinster hurling semi-finals

Croke Park will open its gates to 8,000 fans for this Saturday's Leinster hurling semi-final double bill.

Dublin's clash with Galway (2pm) and Wexford's battle with Kilkenny (4.30pm) will be played out in front of the biggest crowd for a sports event since the pandemic began in Ireland.

The matches will be used as a pilot event to potentially open GAA grounds up again for larger crowds throughout this summer's Championships.

All four counties involved in the semi-final ties will each be allocated 2,000 tickets, with Croke Park operating at just short of 10% of its full capacity.

The matches were originally scheduled for O'Moore Park in Portlaoise, where only 200 supporters were permitted to attend.

Another pilot event will see 1,049 people in the stands for the Connacht football semi-final between Roscommon and Galway at Dr Hyde Park on Sunday.
