Croke Park resident says neighbours are 'holding concerts to ransom'

A Croke Park resident has claimed neighbours preparing to object to extra gigs at the Dublin GAA venue are “holding concerts to ransom”.

Susan Mangan, a Ballybough resident, who previously supported the five Garth Brooks concerts back in 2014, has told how she doesn’t believe there will be many objections to the proposed seven events this year.

Chair of Croke Park Residents Association Patrick Gates said it will gather objections this week to present them to the council.

But Ms Mangan explained people need to see the good, not the bad.

She said: “There’s 25,000 residents in the 1.5km radius around Croke Park and less than 100 people showed up [to the resident’s meeting] so not a lot of people will have objections.

“The likes of littering, that needs to be addressed. They want more bins, they want more toilets, which is a reasonable request. People are feeling like there are anti-social behaviour issues, which 100% has to be addressed.

“There are some personal issues relating to from a couple of years as in no communication with Croke Park.

“I don’t see why they can hold concerts to ransom because of something personal to them.

“I’ve lived here all my life. You have to see the good in this, rather than constantly seeing the bad.”
