Croke Park attendance set to be doubled for All Ireland semi-finals

The Government is set to announce that crowd limits will be increased for the upcoming All Ireland semi-finals at Croke Park.

The current limit on crowds at the national stadium is 18,000 out of a possible 82,500.

The limit could potentially be doubled to 36,000 when Minister for Sport, Jack Chambers announces the new measures sometime next week.

Speaking today at Swords vaccination centre, Taoiseach, Micheal Martin said: "I think we can look forward to increasing that figure for the All-Ireland final – certainly we're looking at the semi-finals."

The Government is also set to look at what crowd size they can allow at the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the coming weeks. Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny is yet to manage in front of a crowd at the Aviva Stadium.

The news was less clear for music and other cultural events due to the majority of these being held indoors.

The Taoiseach said that there will be more pilot concert events but that they would take place outdoors.

This potential easing of restrictions is down to the success of the vaccine rollout across the country.

As of yesterday, over 70% of the adult population was fully vaccinated and over 85% has had one dose of the vaccine.

This bank holiday weekend, walk-in vaccination centres will open for anyone aged 16 and over who hasn't received a vaccine yet or registered on the HSE portal.

Dublin locations as well as opening times can be found here.

12 to 15-year-olds look set to be offered the vaccine with as many "as 250,000 children potentially vaccinated with their first dose before they go back to school," the Taoiseach has said.
