The nightmare NRL campaign of Brisbane's Brodie Croft has deepened with the young halfback to be sidelined for up to six weeks with a knee injury.
Croft, signed from Melbourne by former coach Anthony Seibold with a view to becoming the long-term No.7 at Red Hill, suffered the injury playing for Brisbane's feeder club Wynnum-Manly in the Queensland Cup.
In a short update released on Monday, the Broncos confirmed Croft had undergone minor surgery and was expected to be out for between four to six weeks.
Having struggled to make an impact in his first season with Brisbane last year, Croft began the year as the club's starting No.7.
Dropped to the bench after round three, Croft returned at five-eighth in losses to Penrith and Parramatta before being dropped altogether for the April 30 derby against Gold Coast.
Broncos coach Kevin Walters has instead opted for unheralded Tyson Gamble as his halfback in Brisbane's past two matches and with Adam Reynolds to join the club next season on a three-year deal, Croft's future appears highly uncertain.
In other injury news for the Broncos, hard-working forward Pat Carrigan has had surgery on his torn ACL and will begin rehabilitation ahead of a return in 2022.
The club is also taking a cautious approach with captain Alex Glenn (calf) and centre Kotoni Staggs (knee) as both continue to recover from their injuries.
