Croesty Primary School, Bridgend, shuts after teacher tests positive for coronavirus

An entire primary school has shut after a member of staff tested positive for Covid-19.

Croesty Primary School in Pencoed will be closed for at least the first part of this week as several staff are having to self-isolate as a result, Bridgend Council said.

Bridgend County Borough Council’s cabinet member for education Charles Smith said:

“With several staff self-isolating it unfortunately means there are not enough members of staff to keep the school open.

“The school has informed parents and carers of the situation, and teachers at the school have set out work for the children to access digitally while at home.

“The school will reopen as soon as it can.”

Croesty Primary serves the community of Pencoed on the outskirts of Bridgend. Most pupils come from the village or the surrounding rural area. At its last Estyn inspection in 2013 it had 235 pupils aged between three and 11 years.
