Crocodile viciously lunges at woman after she spots it lurking next to her boat

A woman was forced to react quickly when she approached a crocodile to record it before it leapt out of the water at her.

A video from the Northern Territory in Australia shows the woman on a raft-like fishing boat with a tiny protective fence on it.

"Be careful," a man on the boat says, as the woman approaches the croc which is waiting beneath the murky water.

A mere second later the beast leaps out of the water with its jaws wide open.

The screaming woman leaps back just quick enough to escape its jaws.

The clip was shared on TIkTok, where commentators were keen to have their say on the terrifying situation.

"Omg no I’m never going swimming AGAIN," one commenter said.

"You're gonna need a bigger boat mate," another wrote.

In total, from 1971 to 2004, there were 62 attacks in Australia. The Northern Territory accounted for 62.9% of these.

Updated figures from the NT Department of Land and Resources show 62 attacks in the NT overall up to 2013, 18 of those being fatal.

Ten percent of attacks occurred when people were in or around boats.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics records all underlying causes of death in Australia, with figures up to 2018. In 2009 three people died. In 2010, 2011 and 2012, just one person killed by a crocodile each year.

In 2013, crocodiles in Australia killed two people. And 2014 was a particularly bad year, with five crocodile-related deaths.

From 2015 to 2018, crocodiles in Australia killed a total of four people.
