It’s crunch time for the Young Lions in Slovenia this evening as they look to rescue another dismal European Championship campaign.
England’s chances of reaching this summer’s knockout stages are out of their own hands after disappointing losses to Switzerland and Portugal in which they failed to even muster a single shot on target from open play despite boasting a strong squad full of attacking talent.
Aidy Boothroyd’s side now must beat Croatia in Koper and also hope that Portugal defeat Switzerland in Ljubljana to have a chance to escape Group D, but even then their fate will come down to goal difference.
Boothroyd has come under huge pressure after another disastrous tournament to date and with the 50-year-old’s contract with the FA expiring this summer, tonight could represent his final game in charge.
England are without injured Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi here due to a shoulder injury, while Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe failed a late fitness test.
