Croatia decide against taking knee with England before Euros opener

Croatia players do not intend to take a knee ahead of their Euro 2020 opener against England on Sunday.

The row over the anti-racism message has threatened to overshadow the start of the tournament after there were jeers before England faced Austria and Romania in their warm-up friendlies at the Riverside Stadium.

Gareth Southgate has made it clear that England players will continue to take a knee throughout Euro 2020, but they could be in a minority this summer and Croatia do not plan to join England in performing the gesture before the two nations meet at Wembley.

England’s other Group D opponents, Scotland and the Czech Republic, are expected to discuss taking the knee before the tournament starts.

Scotland manager Steve Clarke said last week: “It is a conversation I will have with the players before we play our first game.

“Then we will decide what way we’re going to do it throughout the Euros.”
