Croatia boss Nenad Gracan resigns after Scotland stun top-ranked side

Croatia Under-21s coach Nenad Gracan has thrown in the towel after losing to Scot Gemmill’s side on Tuesday night.

The Scots secured a stunning away victory against the top seeds when they fought back from a goal down to claim maximum points from the first two games.

It means Scotland Under-21s are level on points with leaders Greece in Group D.

Connor McLennan grabbed both goals in the 2-1 win that has lifted some of the gloom hanging over the nation after the full team’s disastrous start to Euro 2020 qualifying.

Immediately after the game in Sibenik, Gracan and Croatia technical director Marijan Kustic held showdown talks, with the coach offering his resignation.

Scotland Under-21s, meanwhile, have given themselves a great chance of making the finals in Hungary in two years’ time.

The next face Lithuania at Tynecastle on October 10.
