Christian Bale branded Vice a “tragedy” after accepting the Critics’s Choice Award for Best Actor in a Comedy Film.
The actor won for his portrayal of former Vice President Dick Cheney in Adam McKay’s biopic on his life and road to formidable political power.
“I guess time sort of allows it to be considered a comedy, but it’s really a tragedy,” he said during his acceptance speech.
Bale also took home the Critics’s Choice Award for Best Actor, where he said: “When you can only do really one thing in your life it’s great to be recognised for it.”
Having forgotten to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association during his Golden Globes acceptance speech, though he did name-drop Satan, Bale used his Critics’s Choice Award acceptance speech to offer his belated thanks.
The actor also thanked the United States, calling the movie “a love story” for the country and Louis Armstrong, adding: “Because why not, right? He’s just a beautiful man.”
