Critically acclaimed Scottish film picks up one Oscar nomination

SCOTTISH film Aftersun has picked up one Oscar nomination in the Best Leading Actor category.

The film, directed by Edinburgh-born Charlotte Wells, follows Sophie, an 11-year-old Scot, on holiday with her young father.

Wells has garnered international acclaim for the work and has also picked up four Bafta nominations.

The film’s leading man Paul Mescal has been nominated for Best Leading Actor alongside Austin Butler, Colin Farrell, Brendan Fraser, Daryl McCormack, and Bill Nighy.

It is Mescal’s first Oscar nomination having already won a Bafta for his performance in TV’s Normal People.

Elsewhere, German film All Quiet on the Western Front picked up nine nominations. The film was written by Scottish screenwriter Lesley Paterson.

Everything Everywhere All at Once picked up 11 nominations and is among the favourites to pick up Best Picture.
