'Critical incident' stood down across Nottinghamshire NHS - but pressures remain

The critical incident declared by Nottinghamshire's healthcare system last week has been stood down. The NHS service across the city and county triggered the alert on Wednesday, July 27.

This was due to significant numbers of Covid cases, a lack of capacity in the care sector and high numbers of patients arriving at hospitals needing treatment. Non-urgent operations were postponed as a result.

A critical incident is declared when the level of disruption results in a local NHS organisation temporarily or permanently losing its ability to deliver critical services. Almost one week later, on Monday, August 1 health officials announced the critical incident had been stood down.

However they stressed that services remain under sustained pressure. "Patients and members of the public will continue to be asked to use services wisely to ensure those patients with the greatest need can access care and support," said the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board.

"We are grateful to everyone who has taken steps to help relieve the pressure, and we would like to thank our incredible teams across the health and social care sector for their efforts in keeping the public safe."
