
POLICE will examine the circumstances of a fatal crash on the Central Coast after a motorcycle rider died while being followed by an officer.
Tuggerah Lakes Police District has launched a critical incident investigation after the incident, which occurred about 2.30am on Thursday morning.
An officer saw a motorbike on the Motorway Link at Blue Haven allegedly travelling on the wrong side of the road without lights, police said in a statement.
"The officer directed the rider to stop; however, he continued onto Blue Haven Way, followed by the officer, awhere there has been a collision involving the two vehicles," police said.
"The rider, who has not been formally identified, died at the scene."
Specialist crash investigators were called to the scene
A team from Brisbane Water Police District will conduct the critical incident investigation, looking at all circumstances of the crash. The inquiry will be subject to independent review and will make its findings available to the coroner.
The officer involved was taken to Wyong Hospital for mandatory testing.
Blue Haven Way remained closed on Thursday morning, with motorists diverted via Sparks Road and the Pacific Highway to enter the suburb.
