Cristiano Ronaldo working hard and three more things spotted in Manchester United training

The preparations for Manchester United’s crucial game against Tottenham are well and truly underway.

United suffered a huge dent to their top-four hopes on Sunday after being humbled in the Manchester derby. Having dropped out of the Champions League places, the weekend outing against one of their direct rivals for that coveted fourth place could be crucial.

There has been plenty of fallout since the defeat to Manchester City, but there wasn’t any sign of that as the club released their latest batch of pictures from Carrington. Here are four things we learned from United’s latest training pictures.

Ronaldo working hard

Having sat out Sunday’s derby defeat at City, Cristiano Ronaldo was back at Carrington after spending a couple of days back at home in Portugal. The 37-year-old though remains a doubt for the weekend due to his hip flexor issue.

Reports have suggested the Portuguese had to miss training on Wednesday because of the injury. Ronaldo was pictured working separately from the main group, running hard as he looks to get himself back to full fitness.

Varane returns

The news that Raphael Varane has been back in training this week will come as a huge boost for United. Ralf Rangnick's side clearly struggled without the Frenchman in the side on Sunday.

Having been ruled out at the weekend after contracting Covid-19, Varane has returned to training. He was pictured wearing a bib and could be seen in the background as United’s players got involved in a training game, a good sign ahead of Saturday's crucial clash.

Cavani in training

This will come as a big surprise for United fans given the Uruguay international posted a picture of himself recovering from injury at home on Monday. Edinson Cavani was seen wearing a bib and getting involved in the training game, suggesting he could be ready to return on Saturday.

Of course, that’s never quite a guarantee with the 35-year-old. Having been injured for 21 of United’s 37 games so far this season, we’ll have to wait and see whether he makes it against Spurs this weekend.

Rashford all smiles

All the talk after Sunday’s derby defeat was about Marcus Rashford’s future at Old Trafford. As reported by the Manchester Evening News , the England international is weighing up his options after being named on the bench at the Etihad.

The 24-year-old has been left frustrated by his lack of chances in the side in recent weeks. Despite that, he was all smiles as he was pictured taking part in some drills alongside Phil Jones and Eric Bailly.
