It is set to be a seismic weekend in the Premier League as Manchester United welcome home one of the division's greatest ever players.
Cristiano Ronaldo is set to be involved for United when they host Newcastle at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, the only real question is whether or not he will start the match.
Regardless of that decision Ronaldo, 36, is set to make his own piece of history this weekend and will set a new Premier League record the next time he takes to the pitch.
Ronaldo’s last Premier League appearance came against Arsenal back in May 2009 and when he next plays he will set the record for the longest gap between appearances in the competition’s history (12 years 118 days).
Remarkably though, if Ronaldo is to score this weekend he won't register the corresponding record of the longest gap between goals in the Premier League era.
The Portuguese ace's last United league goal came 12 years and 124 days ago, against Man City in May 2009. Though it is former Everton and Wigan defender Matt Jackson who holds the record of 13 years and 187 days between his goals in May 1993 and November 2006.
In order to beat that record Ronaldo would need to go an entire season without scoring for United in the league, even a serial-winner like him has no intentions of setting that one.
