Cristiano Ronaldo will bring out the best in United, says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expects Cristiano Ronaldo’s incredible desire to be the best to inspire the rest of the Manchester United squad.

The Portugal international’s return to Old Trafford from Juventus was confirmed on Tuesday morning with the 36-year-old signing a two-year contract with the option for a further 12 months.

Ronaldo won the Premier League three times during his first spell at United and also helped them become champions of Europe before enjoying more success with Real Madrid and Juventus.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who will be earning about £500,000 a week, has rejoined a club anxious to recapture the glory days of his first period.

Solskjaer is convinced Ronaldo will have a huge impact and that United’s younger players in particular will be able to learn so much from him.

The manager said: “You run out of words to describe Cristiano. He is not only a marvellous player, but also a great human being.

“To have the desire and the ability to play at the top level for such a long period requires a very special person.

“I have no doubt that he will continue to impress us all and his experience will be so vital for the younger players in the squad. Ronaldo’s return demonstrates the unique appeal of this club and I am absolutely delighted he is coming home to where it all started.”
