Juventus are holding out for a €30million fee for Cristiano Ronaldo amid Manchester City’s interest.
City have turned to Ronaldo following their failure to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham and have held talks with Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes. City remain the only club interested in signing Ronaldo.
Ronaldo, 36, is prepared to join City despite his garlanded six years with Manchester United. Juventus finished fourth in Serie A last season and have failed to progress beyond the round-of-16 stage in the Champions League in the last two years.
Juve are prepared to cash in on Ronaldo this month as his contract expires next year and he is not expected to sign an extension.
Mendes has been identified as a convenient deal-maker with Tuesday’s transfer deadline looming as he also represents Ronaldo’s Portugal teammate Bernardo Silva, who wants to leave City. An industry source says there is a willingness from Ronaldo and City for the transfer to happen.
City defenders Ruben Dias and Joao Cancelo are also Mendes clients and the Portuguese transferred Nicolas Otamendi to City in 2015.
It emerged last week that the Premier League champions had been offered Ronaldo, when City had still not ended their pursuit of Kane, and the news antagonised United supporters, which is likely to have pleased some at City.
Ronaldo joined United from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 and won three Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Club World Cup, the FA Cup, and the League Cup before his then-world record £80m transfer to Real Madrid in 2009.
