Cristiano Ronaldo theory disproved as Manchester United star's true value is revealed

Claims that Manchester United would be better off without Cristiano Ronaldo have been quashed by a recent study.

LiveFootballTickets have released the findings of a study that looked into how many points Premier League sides would have amassed this season without the input of their star men.

Despite the criticism he's received this season, United would be eight points worse off without Ronaldo's contribution, leaving them down in eighth in the Premier League table.

Prior to his goal against Brighton on Tuesday, the 37-year-old had gone six games without a goal.

Ronaldo's influence at United extends far beyond his Premier League goals, with his six strikes in the Champions League saving Ralf Rangnick's men from possible elimination.

Liverpool's Premier League points total would take a similar hit if you were to remove the input of Mohamed Salah, with Jurgen Klopp's side also losing lose eight points.

Chelsea would be no worse off without Mason Mount this season, while Manchester City would actually gain two points without star player Raheem Sterling.

All stats correct as of February 6.
