Cristiano Ronaldo tests positive for coronavirus as Juventus star sent home from Portugal duty

Cristiano Ronaldo has become the latest player to test positive for coronavirus on international duty, as the Juventus superstar goes into isolation.

The striker was on international duty with Portugal and played 90 minutes against France on Sunday.

However he will not be involved in the Nations League game against Sweden after a positive test result.

A statement said: " Cristiano Ronaldo was released from the work of the National Team after a positive test for COVID-19, so he will not face Sweden.

"The Portuguese international is doing well, without symptoms, and is in isolation.

"Following the positive case, the remaining players underwent new tests this Tuesday morning, all with a negative result, and are available to Fernando Santos for training this afternoon."

The international break has brought a number of positive cases across Europe, with Celtic seeing their squad hit hard ahead of Saturday's Rangers game.

Star striker Odsonne Edouard tested positive while with the France Under-21 squad and will not return to Scotland until Friday after isolating.

Ryan Christie is out after being told to quarantine having been in close contact with Stuart Armstrong, while Israeli pair Hatem Elhamed and Nir Bitton will also miss the match after testing positive.
