Cristiano Ronaldo subjected to Lionel Messi taunts after shock friendly omission

Cristiano Ronaldo was on the receiving end of Lionel Messi chants after being left out of Juventus ' friendly with Team K League in Seoul on Friday night.

Maurizio Sarri 's side were taking part in an exhibition match against Team K - a selection of South Korea's top players - however Ronaldo was benched by the Italian.

Fans were attending the match hoping to catch a glimpse of one of football's all time greats, but Sarri decided not to play Ronaldo and cited fatigue as the reason for leaving him out.

This did not go down well with supporters who began to chant "Messi, Messi" as they expressed their frustration at not being able to see the main man in action.

The match ended 3-3 and the closest fans came to seeing Ronaldo in action was when one of the Team K players cheekily imitated his famous celebration after scoring.

Reports from AS say that Sarri addressed the media to explain fatigue was the main reason for Ronaldo's absence and that he would benefit from being rested.

He told reporters: "We gave room to some of the younger figures who were ready to step up. Ronaldo was very tired, so we decided to rest him.

"Ronaldo was expected to play, but he was not 100 per cent fit due to muscle fatigue. I spoke with Andrea and Ronaldo before the match and we concluded that it would be best for him to rest. Now we have 10 days without games, so we can focus on preparing well in training."

Juventus' next match sees them face Atletico Madrid in Stockholm on 10th August. The Spanish outfit disposed of their rivals, Real , 7-3 in a pre-season encounter last night.

Sarri will be determined to get his team into shape ahead of this match where Ronaldo should be ready to play his part against the foes of his former club.

Serie A gets underway on Saturday 24th August where Sarri will embark on his first season in charge of the Bianconeri. The fixtures are set to be released this Monday at 16.45 (GMT)
