Cristiano Ronaldo speaks out after being excluded from Juventus squad to face Atalanta

Cristiano Ronaldo says he is 'focused on his recovery' and has vowed to 'come back soon' after being left out of the Juventus squad for Saturday's match against Atalanta.

The Portugal international recently admitted he has been playing through injury, despite scoring a hat-trick against Lithuania and one goal against Luxembourg for his country during the international break.

Following the confirmation of his exclusion from Sarri's latest squad, Ronaldo responded on social media with a picture of himself training accompanied by the caption: "Focused on my recovery to come back soon."

Ronaldo's performances for Portugal came after the 34-year-old appeared to react angrily to being substituted during Juventus' recent wins against Lokomotiv Moscow and AC Milan.

Although the exchanges prompted suggestions that there was a rift between the pair, Ronaldo explained that his reaction was due to his frustration with a niggling injury.

"I tried to help Juventus even playing injured," he said later. "Nobody likes to be substituted, but I understand the substitutions because I wasn't fit.

"As well as in the last two games for Portugal, I wasn't 100 per cent. When it's needed to sacrifice myself for my club and the national team, I do so full of pride. I knew there were many things involved in these games."

Despite the former Real Madrid star's willingness to play through his injury, Sarri decided to rest him for the game against Atalanta, suggesting that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner was in need of a break.

"There's no need to clarify anything with Ronaldo," Sarri explained. "Certain players need to be left to cool off.

"The problem is that, on Tuesday, he told us that he was still not feeling good.

"Our objective is to have him back for the Champions League. I'm 99 percent sure he won't make it tomorrow."

Juventus currently lead Inter Milan by a point at the top of Serie A and they have a crucial Champions League game against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, which Ronaldo could return for.
