Cristiano Ronaldo snubbed as Paul Scholes names best Manchester United finisher

Paul Scholes has labelled Mason Greenwood the best finisher at the club, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani.

Greenwood started the season in rich form, scoring three goals in the opening three Premier League games.

However, the arrival of Ronaldo on transfer deadline day somewhat hampered his finishing in front of goal, as he went six games in all competitions without finding the back of the net.

Greenwood's superb opener against Leicester City on Saturday was his first goal since August and former United midfielder Scholes pointed to the youngster's ability to score wonderful goals, though he did say Greenwood's best position was out wide.

“I think he's the best finisher at the club,” Scholes said on BT Sport. “He has in both feet he’s got real power. I still think he’s playing in the right position. I don't see him as a centre forward who's going to score scrappy goals and headers.

“He has real pace, great skill to get past a player and again it’s all from wide areas. He’s almost going down that Cristiano route of scoring special goals to win games.

"Mason is more of a forward player than me and he has got the power, but as far as a natural finishers I think he can be one of the best.”
