Cristiano Ronaldo shares photo of baby girl days after tragic loss of son

Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez have shared a heart-warming family picture featuring their new baby daughter, days after her twin brother tragically died.

The picture on Instagram shows the Manchester United player surrounded by his family on sofas at their home. Among the group is the latest addition to their family, who is being held by the Portugal forward.

The post says: "Home sweet home. Gio and our baby girl are finally together with us.

"We want to thank everyone for all the kind words and gestures. Your support is very important and we all felt the love and respect that you have for our family. Now it’s time to be grateful for the life that we’ve just welcomed into this world."

On Easter Monday (April 18), the footballer and his partner announced the terrible news that their baby son, who was the twin of their new daughter, had died. In a statement, the couple called it "the greatest pain that any parent can feel".

They said: "Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.

"We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support.

"We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our baby boy, your are our angel. We will always love you."

Ronaldo missed United's Premier League clash with Liverpool at Anfield the following day, which the Reds won 4-0. However, during the match, both sets of fans paid tribute to the player and his family.

In the seventh minute, corresponding with the number worn by Ronaldo on his shirt, United fans applauded. Elsewhere around Anfield including in The Kop, Liverpool supporters sung You'll Never Walk Alone.
