Cristiano Ronaldo shares one-word update after being dropped by Manchester United for Chelsea fixture

Cristiano Ronaldo has provided a one-word update on his Instagram profile after Manchester United omitted the five-time Ballon d'Or winner from their matchday squad against Chelsea.

Ronaldo, 37, will not feature at Stamford Bridge after refusing to come off the United bench during the statement win over top-four rivals Tottenham on Wednesday night. Erik ten Hag addressed that decision to leave Ronaldo at home during his pre-match press conference.

Naturally, given his immense standing in the game, the former Real Madrid and Juventus striker continues to draw attention away from his teammates following his midweek antics and the whole situation has sharpened focus on his much-talked-about future; after Ronaldo expressed a desire to move on from Old Trafford this summer.

With no takers for his services, the Portugal captain was forced to stay put. He has also had to settle for a bit-part role this season with Ronaldo venting his frustrations in midweek before later providing an explanation.

Ten Hag was, once again, pressed on the matter in the build-up to Chelsea on Saturday afternoon. He said: "What the talk was - if you ask about that - is between Cristiano and me.

"We miss him tomorrow [against Chelsea]. It's a miss for the squad, but important for the attitude and mentality in the group and now we have to focus on Chelsea and that is the most important thing."

As the dust continues to settle on the Ronaldo situation, United revealed their matchday squad for the impending trip to west London while the Portuguese also provided an update on social media. Uploading a story this evening, Ronaldo was pictured with his feet up wearing a recovery suit.

His one-word caption in Portuguese read "continuamos" ("we continue" in English) with prayer, thumbs up and 'spot-on' emojis.
