Cristiano Ronaldo sent message from Pele after winning Serie A title

Brazilian legend Pele has congratulated Cristiano Ronaldo and his Juventus teammates after they won the Serie A title for the ninth season in a row.

Ronaldo and Federico Bernardeschi struck as a 2-0 win against Sampdoria on Sunday sealed the Scudetto with two games to spare, with Juve on 83 points, four above Inter Milan having played a match less.

The victory means Ronaldo has now won a total of seven domestic league titles during his time at Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juve, and Pele paid tribute to the player in a post on social media.

The 79-year-old took to Instagram to say: "@Cristiano is the modern athlete, who shows everyone that success always comes to those who are dedicated and love what they do.

“Also, I would like to congratulate my fellow Brazilians @douglascosta, @alxsndro12 and @daniluiz2. Great work winning the @seriea title, @juventus."

Pele is clearly a massive fan of Ronaldos, and recently claimed he was a better player than his bitter rival Lionel Messi.

Speaking to YouTube channel Pilhado in March, Pele said: "Today the best player in the world is Cristiano Ronaldo. I think he's the best, because he's more consistent, but you can't forget about Messi, of course, but he's not a striker."

Ronaldo and Juventus ' season is not over quite yet, as after their final two Serie A games against Cagliari and Roma they face Lyon in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on August 7.

They will be looking to overturn the 1-0 defeat they suffered in France as they try to claim Champions League glory for just the second time in the club's history, with their only other triumph coming in the 1995-96 season, which added to the European Cup they won in 1985.
