Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up on his delight after officially confirming his return to Manchester United.
The 36-year-old’s return to Old Trafford has been announced on deadline day, signing a two-year contract with the club, with an option to extend it for a further season.
Ronaldo returns to the Red Devils 12 years after he joined Real Madrid for a fee in the region of £80million.
He scored 118 times in 292 games during his first spell, winning the first of his five Ballon d’Ors in 2008.
Upon leaving United, he firmly established himself as one of the greatest players in history, scoring a staggering 450 goals in 438 appearances for Real Madrid.
In 2018, he then joined Juventus with the ambition of winning the Champions League for the sixth time.
The Bianconeri failed to do that and after pushing to leave the Italian giants, United swooped to land the forward, who will join up with his new teammates after the upcoming international break.
Speaking after his move was confirmed, Ronaldo sent an emotional message to supporters: “Manchester United is a club that has always had a special place in my heart, and I have been overwhelmed by all the messages I have received since the announcement on Friday.
“I cannot wait to play at Old Trafford in front of a full stadium and see all the fans again. I'm looking forward to joining up with the team after the international games, and I hope we have a very successful season ahead.”
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer added: “You run out of words to describe Cristiano. He is not only a marvellous player, but also a great human being.
“To have the desire and the ability to play at the top level for such a long period requires a very special person.

“I have no doubt that he will continue to impress us all and his experience will be so vital for the younger players in the squad.
“Ronaldo’s return demonstrates the unique appeal of this club and I am absolutely delighted he is coming home to where it all started.”
Ronaldo is expected to make his second Man United debut against Newcastle at Old Trafford on September 11 and he will be hoping to extend a record against the Magpies, which has seen him score six times and register five assists in just 11 games.
