Cristiano Ronaldo sends message after getting better of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Man Utd

Cristiano Ronaldo has now overtaken Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's goal total at Manchester United - just weeks after his dismissal as manager.

The Portugal international was signed in the summer and was heralded as a major coup on deadline day in a shock swoop.

Some had questioned whether his presence would disturb the tactical plan but Ronaldo's goals speak for themselves.

The 36-year-old has been in unstoppable form, scoring 14 times in 21 appearances - including six in the Champions League.

His latest display came at Old Trafford on Thursday night against Burnley, having come in for criticism for his performance against Newcastle three days prior.

But the former Real Madrid star proved them wrong after scoring and grabbing an assist in a 3-1 win.

And his latest strike took him to a total of 92 Premier League goals for United, one more than Solskjaer - the man to bring him back to the club.

Only five players have more than the ex-Juventus frontman - Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Andy Cole and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Ronaldo’s poached effort gave the Red Devils a 3-0 lead before Aaron Lennon got one back to make it eight unbeaten since Solskjaer’s dismissal.

That includes a win and a draw against Arsenal and Chelsea with Michael Carrick in charge while the club are still a working progress under Rangnick.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo was quick to respond to the win on Instagram where he posted a picture of himself scoring against Burnley.

He captioned the post: “Best way to end the year! Great victory.”

The result means United end the year sixth in the Premier League and still retain hope of finishing in the top four.

Arsenal currently occupy while Rangnick’s men sit four points behind them with a game in hand while West Ham are also in the mix.

But while the Red Devils might believe that getting into a Champions League spot is the aim, the German coach has insisted that they are shooting for the stars.

“I wouldn't say fourth is the minimum,” he told Amazon Prime. “It is about taking next development steps.

“Now eight games in a row without a defeat. It is about taking next steps.”

United face Wolves next in the Premier League on Monday evening at Old Trafford.
