Cristiano Ronaldo sends direct message to Man Utd fans after recovering from illness

Cristiano Ronaldo is back in training ahead of Manchester United's huge trip to Everton on Saturday.

Ronaldo missed United's 1-1 draw with Leicester on Saturday due to illness but is back in training ahead of the lunchtime clash at Goodison Park. With eight games to go, United are outsiders in the race for fourth spot, with interim boss Ralf Rangnick's side down in seventh place, three points behind Tottenham and Arsenal and on the same total as West Ham.

But Arsenal's 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace has given United fresh hope of finishing fourth, with Ronaldo back to boost their hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League. Ronaldo picked up his United Player of the Month award for March and revealed his desire to end a frustrating season on a high.

Asked how he felt at being named player of the month, Ronaldo said: "Lovely. Thank you very much for these votes. I feel so happy and motivated for the rest of the season. I will do my best like I do all the time so thank you to all of them and see you soon in Old Trafford. Thank you, guys."

Ronaldo's triumph was his third United Player of the Month award since returning to Old Trafford last year. The 37-year-old also won the Premier League's Player of the Month award, for the fifth time in his career, in September.

Man United face Everton at a good time, with Frank Lampard's side struggling for form. Last time out the Toffees were beaten 3-1 by West Ham. Lampard said: "It's disappointing. We deserved a point at least from the game on general play.

"It was an afternoon when quite a few circumstances went against us. That can happen. But we played well; the game plan, the discipline, the character. We created enough chances and it's not easy to create against West Ham so there are things we can be positive and happy about.

"Not the result, but we've got 10 more games and if we carry on in that vein things will turn and we will be OK."
