Cristiano Ronaldo's sister takes swipe at Juventus flops after Champions League exit

Cristiano Ronaldo's sister has taken a swipe at his Juventus teammates after the team crashed out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage.

Juventus beat Lyon 2-1 on the night in the second leg at the Stadio delle Alpi on Friday but were eliminated on away goals having lost the first fixture 1-0 back in February.

Ronaldo did his best to drag his side into the quarter-finals, scoring twice to bring his side from two-down to level the tie on aggregate.

But Juventus were unable to find the decisive third goal to avoid elimination, prompting a thinly-veiled attack on their other stars by Ronaldo's sibling, Elma.

"You did better than anyone, dear brother," Elma wrote on Instagram. "I’m proud to see you play and to see your dedication but unfortunately you can’t do everything alone.

"You know that football is like that, but you also have to think that you did your best and that you are still the best."

Ronaldo was despondent at the final whistle as he shook his head on his way down the tunnel.

But the writing had been on the wall for Juve as early as the 12th minute after Memphis Depay's penalty left the hosts needing three goals to progress.

The fact Juve got within touching distance was largely down to Ronaldo's contribution though, after he dispatched a penalty before smashing in a fine long-range effort with half an hour still left on the clock.

Yet despite all their efforts, Juve were unable to find another, and Ronaldo missed out on a spot in the last eight for the first time since 2010.

Speaking after the match, Juve boss Maurizio Sarri refused to criticise his players for their shock elimination.

He told Sky Italia: "We played a great match. We gave it our all and tried everything.

"We believed it all the way to the end, we regret the first half in the first leg.

"We're disappointed, but there's nothing to say about tonight's performance."
