Cristiano Ronaldo's message to Man Utd dressing room after Liverpool thrashing

Cristiano Ronaldo has told his Manchester United team-mates they are the only ones to blame following their humiliating loss to Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo could only look on as the Red Devils were battered by their old rivals in front of an increasingly despondent home crowd.

The Portuguese superstar was lucky to stay on the pitch after kicking out at Curtis Jones, while his second-half consolation was ruled out by VAR.

Meanwhile, everything the visitors touched turned to gold in a scintillating display of their own title credentials.

Mohamed Salah once again laid down his claim to be the world’s best player, scoring for the 10th consecutive game on his way to a stunning hat-trick.

Naby Keita and Diogo Jota also got onto the scoresheet on an afternoon where the chasm between the two north-west giants was crystal clear.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come in for intense criticism following the capitulation, with many believing his position in the dugout is becoming untenable.

But Ronaldo has instead laid the blame at the feet of those on the pitch, suggesting that the supporters, who booed the team off at half-time, deserve much better.

In a social media post, the 36-year-old said: “Sometimes the result is not the one we fight for. Sometimes the score is not the one we want.

“And this is on us, only on us, because there’s no one else to blame. Our fans were, once again, amazing in their constant support.

“They deserve better than this, much better, and it’s up to us to deliver. The time is now!”

United have now suffered five defeats in their last 11 games in all competitions, with Solskjaer admitting he has hit ‘rock bottom’.

"It is the worst feeling. The feeling that we are getting to where we want to be has been there. Last few weeks we have hit a brick wall,” the Norwegian said in the immediate aftermath of the crushing defeat. “We have conceded too many easy goals.

"That is a concern. This is the lowest I have been. I accept the responsibility. That is mine today.

"I do believe in myself and I am getting close to what we want at the club. The results lately haven’t been good enough. Hands up. Next week is Tottenham away. Then Atalanta. Then Man City. We have to go into this with the right frame of mind.

"The time is now. Man Utd have had difficult times before and we have always bounced back. We have started this season badly. We have hit a brick wall. We need to start building results – and get clean sheets."
